Product manager · Generative AI · Former software developer · New York
Abeer Minhas
I'm a product manager in New York. Most recently I spent almost three years at Merck on generative AI tools for medical writers, the people who turn thousands of pages of clinical trial data into the reports regulators read. A first draft used to take two to three weeks. Now it takes three or four days.
I started out as a software developer, building prototypes with AR, VR and brain-computer interfaces. At one point I put a HoloLens on a lab scientist so she could pull up a procedure without looking away from her experiment.
I also write essays, sew, and have reviewed 75 books on Goodreads.
Projects
Things I've made
A challenge I set myself: one dataset, three products, each asking more of generative AI than the last. The dataset is my Goodreads export — 837 books, 346 read, 82 reviewed.
- 01Make it beautiful — a 3D vault
- 02Make it talk — a voice agent that searches the shelf
- 03Make it teach — six agents that write a syllabus
The Abeer Minhas Collection
75 book reviews in a dark 3D vault, with ten named pigments. I wanted to see if I could vibe code something as nice as Stripe Press.

Majlis
A professor's reading list is their expertise, sitting in a spreadsheet doing nothing. Six agents turn one into a six-week syllabus — and one of them exists only to strike things off.

Sultan al-Waraq
An ancient owl spirit who guards my Goodreads shelf. Tell him a book you loved and he'll recommend two or three of mine, quoting my reviews out loud.

Where I'm most useful
The problems I keep getting handed
- 01
Rooms where nobody agrees on the problem yet
Merck's clinical study report platform brought together more than 80 people in data science, AI, life sciences and medicine, across three continents. A lot of my job was keeping everyone pointed at the same problem.
- 02
Translating between people who think differently
Engineers and medical writers at Merck. Clinicians, patients and caregivers at Roon. Each group described the work differently, and the product had to make sense to all of them.
- 03
Making the invisible parts of a system visible
Growing a knowledge management product 600% and onboarding 250 global clinical trials meant figuring out how information actually moved around Merck. Along the way I noticed the engineers were burning out.
- 04
Starting from zero
First hire and only PM at Roon, with a web app shipped in six months. Before that, years of building prototypes with technology nobody had found a use for yet.
Outside work
Things I've gotten into
- Stripe Press's website“Could I vibe code something like this? And how do you even put 3D things on a web page?”A 3D shelf of the 75 books I've reviewed. →
- Places and their stories“What if the historians and local experts told those stories directly?”Stoop, a concept for audio tours by the people who actually know the place.
- A magazine article about bad boyfriends“What does the Qur'an actually say about cowardice?”An essay about Surah Yusuf.
- My father's old film camera“How does anyone become an expert in a world this specific?”Nothing yet. Still thinking about it.
- A conversation about weeds“Did indigenous cultures even have a concept of weeds?”A lot of reading about indigenous systems of knowledge.
- Natural perfumery“How hard could it be?”I own perfume ingredients now.

Work
- 2024 — 2026
Senior Product Manager, Generative AI Medical Writing
Merck
Led two generative AI tools for clinical trial medical writing, including the platform that drafts clinical study reports. That platform involved more than 80 people in data science, AI, life sciences and medicine, on three continents. I also started Merck's US product management community of practice and sat on the company-wide regulatory AI team.
- 180 → 80
- hours to a fully human-reviewed first draft
- 50%
- fewer errors in those drafts
- 3–4 days
- for a first draft, down from 2–3 weeks
- 2023
Senior Platform Product Manager, Identity & Access Management
Merck
Platform product work on who gets access to what, across the whole company.
- 2021 — 2022
0→1 Product Manager
Roon
First hire and only PM at a Sequoia-backed medical education startup. Shipped the web app in six months, then worked with clinicians, patients and caregivers on a video-first mobile app. The videos had to be medically correct and also kind to the person watching.
- 2019 — 2021
Product Manager → Senior PM, Foundational Data & Analytics
Merck
Grew an internal knowledge management product more than 600%, across every division and 250 global clinical trials. Also noticed the engineers were burning out, changed the ways of working that were causing it, and ran workshops on psychological safety.
- 2018 — 2019
Lead, Emerging Technology Solutions & Partnerships
Merck
Somebody paid me to ask "what if" about healthcare. I scouted startups, ran a workshop on catching disease outbreaks early in New York State, and built prototypes, including an AI that reads emotion and a tool that counts bacteria colonies in petri dishes.
- 2014 — 2018
Software Developer, Applied Technology
Merck
Built prototypes with AI, AR/VR and brain-computer interfaces. Microsoft made a video about our HoloLens project, and we ended up in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Three degrees
Education
University of Pennsylvania
MCIT, Computer & Information Technology
Possibly the best two years of my life. Hard, and full of people I wanted to keep talking to.
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
MBS, Biomedical Sciences
Biodefense and pharmacology. Mostly taught me I did not want to go to medical school, which is also a result.
Binghamton University
BA, Political Science & Economics
Pre-med friends told me social science wasn't real science. I asked which science was the hardest and minored in it out of spite. Organic chemistry turned out to be great.
